Coast FIRE Calculator
Find out if you have enough invested today to stop saving for retirement.
What is Coast FIRE?
Coast FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) is a financial milestone where you have accumulated enough invested assets that, without any further contributions, your portfolio will grow to support your desired retirement lifestyle by your target retirement age.
Unlike traditional FIRE, where you need to save enough to retire immediately, Coast FIRE allows you to "coast" to retirement. This means you only need to earn enough to cover your current living expenses, giving you the freedom to switch to a lower-paying job you love, work part-time, or take a career break.
How to Use This Calculator
Our Coast FIRE Calculator helps you visualize your path to financial freedom. Simply enter your details:
- Current Age & Retirement Age: Define your timeline.
- Current Invested Assets: Your total savings in investment accounts today.
- Monthly Contribution: How much you plan to save each month until retirement.
- Annual Spending in Retirement: How much you expect to spend per year when you retire (in today's dollars).
- Growth & Inflation Rates: We use real (inflation-adjusted) returns for accuracy. A 7% return with 3% inflation means a 4% real return.
Need More Precision?
This calculator is great for a quick check, but real life is more complex. If you want to track your net worth, manage multiple currencies, and simulate detailed retirement scenarios with changing variables over time, try our dedicated app.

The 4% rule is a common standard, suggesting you can withdraw 4% of your portfolio in the first year of retirement and adjust for inflation thereafter. However, some prefer a more conservative 3.5% or 3% rate for longer retirement periods.
Does this account for inflation?
Yes! The calculator uses "Real Growth Rate" which is your investment return minus inflation. This keeps all numbers in today's purchasing power, making it easier to understand your target numbers.
What happens when I reach Coast FIRE?
Once you hit your Coast FIRE number, you technically don't need to save another penny for retirement. You can choose to spend all your income, work less, or continue saving to reach full FIRE sooner.
